Married at the San Francisco city hall the year before in an intimate ceremony, Mica & Nate chose to venture abroad for their wedding. The mountains of Pemberton won them over and they gathered there with their friends and family from all over the world to celebrate.

This is a couple who has been through a lot. They have had their fair share of heartache from health troubles, but this post isn’t about the story of their struggle. This post is about a day that was so incredibly beautiful with a ceremony that brought everyone to tears and an absolute feast in the field by the mountain. This is about a celebration of love, of overcoming, of life. This is about two people who so deserved all the joy that surrounded them. This is about a husband who holds his wife in a way that makes her feel like she’s in the safest place in the world in his arms.

There’s always a bit of risk when planning an alfresco wedding, dinner, or event. Will it rain? Will there be too many bugs? Will the uneven ground bother people? Throw those worries away because the end result is second to none. Imagine sun set light streaming through the trees while your guests enjoy dinner and stars rising overhead as the dessert course is brought out. Lights strung in the branches of trees and people mingling in fresh air. There’s nothing better.

We were honoured when Farmacie recruited us to photograph their most recent long-table dinner at Southlands Heritage Farm in Vancouver. Beautiful people, food, space, and evening.

Tasshia & Garrett’s wedding was one of the most joy-filled days we have witnessed. I loved how they were soaking everything in that day, fully present and connected to their friends and family and each other. Soaking in the fact that they were finally husband and wife and over-the-moon about it. About starting a life together. About moving in and venturing out, together.

The morning they woke to was overcast. The mist hung low in the mountains. But, slowly, it all faded away as a brilliant sun rose high in the sky. It was like the weather knew that the joy wouldn’t be snuffed out if it decided to rain. It was as if the joy that was in every breath of the day lifted those clouds and sent them onward.

It was a day of paper flowers, of lace dresses, of handwritten signs, of a cake made by a friend, of a vintage car parked on Love Road. It was a day of pink and polka-dot ribbon wands, of a very fine waxed mustache, of personal vows, of local food and local wine, of jam made by the wedding party and of a Kate-Spade necklace that said “mrs”. And even if all these lovely and personal details were missing, it would have been the best day ever. A day of celebration, joy, encouragement, prayer, thankfulness, and the biggest surrounding of love for the start of a marriage.

And that is what it is about. A wedding is the start of a marriage. The continuation of an adventure that has already begun. A promise to see that adventure through, no matter where it takes you. Tasshia & Garrett know that and we wish them all the best and all our love.
