Emily & Jesse // Wedding

“Our first dance was one of the most special moments of the wedding day. As soon as we settled into each other’s arms and tears of love started to flow, it hit us that we were married. And as we danced outside under the stars, there was an overwhelming sense of calm… it was magical.” -Emily

In the midst of one of the busiest summers of our career, Emily & Jesse’s day felt slow. Slow in all the good ways. A driving down gravel roads through the mountains kind of slow. A relaxed, sunny morning kind of slow. A lingering, al fresco dinner kind of slow. And, it was magical, just as Emily herself felt it, we felt it too. Their intimate wedding tucked away in the mountains just outside of Squamish was really, the ideal day. Surrounded by such a vibrant and loving community of family and friends, Emily and Jesse held hands and exchanged vows and then they partied with their closest friends and family until the stars came out. Emily & Jesse were such a fun couple to work with–they were so open and welcoming and sat us at a table during the reception with family. True gems. We will never forget all the heartfelt speeches, dining in the open summer air, the way their parents looked so incredibly proud, how Emily’s eyes crinkled at the corners when she giggled and how Jesse held his bride in his arms, in complete contentment.

One for the books. Enjoy.

Just a short drive from Vancouver, Squamish is such a fantastic spot for a wedding. Emily & Jesse’s day took place at the Eagle Valley Retreat in Brackendale and a lot of DIY love happened to make the whole setup possible. Other Squamish (and area) wedding venues we love include the Sea to Sky Gondola, Sunwolf, Brew Creek Lodge, Cheakamus Centre and Drumkeeran House. If you’re getting married in Squamish or planning an outdoor wedding anywhere else, get in touch!

Anna & Paolo’s Elegant Fall Wedding

In the Summer, we love outdoor weddings. When the weather is warm, there’s nothing better than sun-lit ceremonies in open spaces, long alfresco dinners under the trees and dancing on a clear night under the stars. But, during the rest of the year we adore all the cosy, elegant, hip, urban, and off-beat indoor weddings we get to document.

Anna & Paolo’s was one of those perfect Autumn weddings. Cosy & elegant. A lingering multi-course meal. Jewel-toned details that made the grey day feel warmer and brighter.

If you love all things elegant, fabulous dinner parties, photos on roof-tops, adorable flower girls, and urban settings, you will love the story of Anna & Paolo’s wedding day at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. We had so much fun photographing it and I still dream of Anna’s amazing velvet shoes and the late-night pierogi bar.

Mica & Nate // Wedding

“The mountains are calling and I must go.” -John Muir

Married at the San Francisco city hall the year before in an intimate ceremony, Mica & Nate chose to venture abroad for their wedding. The mountains of Pemberton won them over and they gathered there with their friends and family from all over the world to celebrate.

This is a couple who has been through a lot. They have had their fair share of heartache from health troubles, but this post isn’t about the story of their struggle. This post is about a day that was so incredibly beautiful with a ceremony that brought everyone to tears and an absolute feast in the field by the mountain. This is about a celebration of love, of overcoming, of life. This is about two people who so deserved all the joy that surrounded them. This is about a husband who holds his wife in a way that makes her feel like she’s in the safest place in the world in his arms.

If you know Mica & Nate and their story as we do, you’ll share our feelings of deep gratitude and triumph that they were able to enjoy a day so rich with beauty and merriment. Breathe it in, friend.

Connection Shoots (are the best)

You’re engaged! Congrats–let’s celebrate! You’re going to love having some amazing portraits taken of you and your love in this season of life. A lot of couples opt for taking engagement photos to celebrate this season, but if that conjures up feelings of deep awkwardness and images in your mind of couples perching on top of logs and doing a weird leaning over kiss, don’t worry! We’ve got just the thing for you–our Connection Shoot.

This is our non-cheesy spin on the traditional engagement shoot and boy, is it fun. We’ve created our Connection Shoots with intention: we wanted to give our couples a chance to get comfortable with us and our cameras before their wedding day, get some fantastic photos of theirselves in their home/neighbourhood or somewhere special to them elsewhere, AND have the opportunity to connect and strengthen their bond as a couple. Life gets busy, wedding planning can be crazy, and we want to help our couples remember why they dived into all of this in the first place. A Connection Shoot is perfect for that. The photos you receive are natural, honest, and beautiful.

“…we felt like we fell in love all over again!” – Shauna & Jeremy

We aren’t putting our couples in cheesy or canned poses–we’re getting them to share and connect with each other. Sometimes we cosy up in your home and make waffles or take a morning stroll in your neighbourhood, other times we hike through the forest and mountains or hang out on the beach to catch the sunsrise or sunset. We always have a ton of fun together and all the awkwardness about having your photo taken is over in about 5 minutes. And then, when your wedding day rolls around you know that you are mega photogenic and that we’re awesome to hang out with–what could be better?

“Thank you so much for such a great day! You made us feel so comfortable and happy!” -Anna & Paolo

“I just wanted to send a quick note thanking you both for yesterday again. Seriously, I don’t know if you know how much your kindness and openness meant to me (and Andy).  I am not the best at having attention on me and have been worried about that a lot with the wedding. But after yesterday, I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. You made us feel so amazingly comfortable and relaxed and you truly made it feel like we were spending the day catching up. Andy and I came home so excited about having both of you as part of the celebrations.” -Caitriona

Wow! Thank you so much- you are both magical photographer geniuses! We are so in love with them- you captured our personalities and the fun day perfectly- we cannot thank you enough.” -Meg & James

We hope you enjoyed a little peek into the magic of our connection shoots. If you’d like to see a few more examples, check out the Related Posts below!

We are in the midst of a very lovely summer, documenting the most amazing people and celebrations. These two are from Kylie & Eric’s wedding at Rowena’s Inn on the River in Harrison Mills, BC–a brilliant day.
